Updated Sprint Coverage Maps have me rethinking...
Sprint users, be sure to check out this thread on the Sprint Community: Voice and 3G coverage being drastically reduced I rely on my smartphone for data access when I travel and in the past I haven’t had too much trouble with signal in remote areas, but these new coverage maps are kinda frighting given some of the states the company I work for does business in. I’ve learned to live...

HTC EVO battery conditioning steps
This was posted over in the Sprint Community Forums so I thought I’d pass it along. Sounds crazy, but its also free to try :) This is a one-time only procedure. Turn the EVO on and charge it for 8 hours. Unplug it and turn it off. Plug it back in and charge for 1 hour. Unplug it and turn it on. Wait 2 minutes and turn it off. Plug it back in and charge for 1 hour. Here’s a...

Official: Casio g’zOne Commando Available April 28... →
The Casio press release for the g’zOne says “It also provides virtual treks for famous North American trails and roads including Mt. Kilimanjaro …” Uh, last I checked that was in Africa …

If you were using Google Voice in the past but turned off having your mobile phone ring, and now you’ve activated your Sprint number as your Google Voice number, be sure to go to Google Voice settings and select your mobile phone again, otherwise your mobile phone won’t ring! Another thing I didn’t realize is if you load the Google Voice app on your Android smartphone it takes...

Today I was able to activate my Sprint number as my Google Voice number (thanks Sprint!). I haven’t really done much with Google Voice to date since I really didn’t want to try and get all my friends and family to learn a new number - I’ve had my Sprint number for almost 13 years, even I couldn’t remember what my GV number was. So now its time to dive in and see what Google...

Skype lets the rest of us call on 3G →
Finally Sprint customers can make Skype calls on 3G. Now if we could just make video calls using the EVO’s front camera … Does anyone use Fring or Qik?

CyanogenMod 7.0 for EVO Review
CyanogenMod, the popular aftermarket firmware distribution for mobile devices, has now reached Version 7.0, a stable release based on the Android Open Source Project’s “Gingerbread” 2.3.3 base software. This is a review of CM7.0.0-Supersonic for the HTC EVO.  After installing CM7 the EVO becomes a Gingerbread phone, with all the cool bells and whistles found that that Android...

DoggCatcher adds variable speed playback
One of the things that’s been lacking in the Android app market is a podcast player that can playback audio at various speeds. This has been around for a while on iOS and now there’s a solution for android users who are looking to cram more podcast info in a shorter amount of time. I’ve been using DoggCatcher for about 9 months now and I really like it as it allows plenty of...

Second EVO Notification LED
Did you know the EVO has a second notification LED in the right had side of the ear piece grill? I had no idea until I was playing around with CyanogenMod 7. In CM7 you can use it for message notifications, pretty cool. Would be nice if HTC added functionality for it in the next EVO release for Gingerbread (leaked ROMs are already floating around, so it could be coming very soon!). Apparently the...

Nexus S 4G Available for Pre-Order at Best Buy →
$199 (contract price) seems like a pretty good deal if you want a pure Google device with 4G. For me though, the Nexus S specs were underwhelming when it came out on T-Mobile (other than that cool curved screen) and seems even more dated in this world of dual-core processors.

HTC Sense 3.0 is for Newer Devices Only →
AndroidCentral and others are reporting that HTC (via Twitter) says that Sense 3.0 is only for newer devices like the EVO 3D, Sensation and Flyer. I’m totally fine with this, but then I like to get a new phone every year. I’d rather companies focus on new features that take advantage of the hardware upgrades like dual-core processors and new graphics chips than worry about making...

Engadget Says Lock Down the Android OS?
Listening to the Engadget Podcast from April 8, 2011 I heard the most incredible thing today. They were discussing Andy Rubin’s response to Android’s fragmentation issues and “openness” (which itself mainly stems from Google’s refusal to make the Honeycomb source code available until its “ready” – sounds like id Software in the 90’s), and everyone on the podcast came out and basically said Google...

Why I'll be pre-ordering an EVO 3D
Let me start by saying I love my HTC EVO. I’ve had mine since launch day, pre-ordered at Best Buy. The EVO is easily the best phone I have ever owned, a list which includes the Treo 650, 700p, 800w, HTC Touch Pro, and the original Palm Pre. From that list you can probably tell I’ve been a Sprint customer for a while, over 10 years in fact, a testament to what I believe to be their...
